Since its formation in 1880, the League has been the
industry's chief advocate in the legislative, regulatory, and public
opinion arenas in Illinois. As one of the nation's largest state
trade associations for thrifts and community banks, the League
ensures that the concerns of Illinois' institutions are well
represented on both the state and national levels. Representing the
legislative interest of Illinois' financial institutions continues
to be the League's primary mission.
As Congress and the Illinois General Assembly consider major
legislation to alter the financial services marketplace, effective
communications with legislative and regulatory policy makers is the
League's top priority and main focus of activity. The League is
headquartered in Springfield, Illinois and maintains a legislative
consultant in Washington, DC; thus making it possible to work
closely at both the state and federal levels with key legislators,
regulators and policy makers. To achieve its goals, the League also
works with other industry coalitions and Washington representatives.
The League participates in all phases of the legislative process,
by drafting and amending bills, and testifying regularly before
legislative committees.
